A Night to Remember: Sparklers, Cornfields, and Creativity

There’s something magical about combining two seemingly unrelated elements—like fireworks and a dry cornfield. While mixing the two might not seem like the best idea at first, we thought, “Why not?” As long as we stayed a safe distance from the corn, we were good to go. And what resulted was an unforgettable photoshoot.

We kicked off the evening by capturing some stunning shots in the cornfield, using American flags as a nod to the holiday. It felt like the perfect way to celebrate Independence Day.

As the sun began to dip lower, we moved farther from the field, prepping for something a little more exciting. Enter sparklers. With a long focal length lens, I was able to compress the background, making the cornfield appear closer than it actually was—creating a striking effect.

When the sky finally darkened enough, it was time to get creative. With the sparklers glowing in the night, I played with dragging the camera shutter, allowing the sparkles to paint trails of light across the frame. One of the highlights? Caylie expertly shaping the sparklers into a heart before the shutter closed.

Caylie Sebesta and I had an absolute blast with this shoot, and I can’t wait to try something similar again—next time with a model who has a little free time!
