As photographers, sometimes our plans change on the fly—and that was certainly the case with this shoot. Originally, we had planned to take advantage of the natural light outdoors, but in the Texas heat, we quickly realized that an indoor location would be much more comfortable. Fortunately, Adele’s home offered the perfect indoor setting, with a beautiful window seat in her bedroom that became the centerpiece of the shoot.
However, one challenge we faced was the lack of natural light in the room. With the photoshoot originally set outdoors, I hadn’t brought any large light modifiers with me. But, as any photographer knows, you make do with what you’ve got! I managed to find an umbrella in my truck to soften the light from one side, and used the soft sock for my beauty dish on the other side to create a balanced and flattering light.
The key to making this setup work was adjusting the camera’s shutter speed and ISO to match the ambient light coming from the overhead fixture near the window seat. Once that balance was achieved, it was all about playing with the light and shadows, and letting Adele’s natural modeling ability take center stage.
One of the best parts of working with Adele is how effortless it is. She’s the kind of model who doesn’t need constant direction—just hand her something to work with, and she’ll make it her own. She’s always full of energy and creativity, making my job easy and fun!
